Lidl Starovice Sulphur Dioxide Recall Overview:
- Who: Lidl GB is recalling bottles of Starovice Czech Lager 5.0%
- Why: The product contains sulphur dioxide not mentioned on the label.
- Where: The recall is effective throughout the UK.
Bottles of beer are being recalled across the UK because they contain undeclared sulphur dioxide, which can be risky for some consumers.
In a recall notice posted April 30 to the Food Standards Agency, Lidl GB announced it is recalling its Starovice Czech Lager 5.0% in 500 ml bottles with a best-by date of 16 October 2022.
The recall was issued because the beers contain sulphur dioxide that is not mentioned on the label.
“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites,” the recall notice states.
The notice did not state whether there had been any adverse reactions so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Starovice Czech Lager Customers Should Return Product To Store For Refund, According To Recall Notice
Lidl GB is recalling the product from customers directly. It has also been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to customers.
“If you have bought the above product and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites, do not drink it,” the recall says. “Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Last year, Lidl recalled a batch of its oat milk following a months-long campaign by a 23-year-old Scottish TikToker who said the batch of milk with the sell-by date of 2022 was lumpy and had an odd smell.
