Purplebricks Class Action Lawsuit Overview:
- Who: A lawyer pursuing a Purplebricks class action lawsuit on behalf of self-employed agents says the case could cost the company more than £20 million.
- Why: This estimate is based on similar cases against Uber and other companies that allegedly misclassified their workers as self-employed.
- Where: The Purplebricks class action lawsuit affects workers across the UK.
A Purplebricks class action lawsuit may cost the real estate agency “tens of millions” of pounds, according to a lawyer representing the putative class members.
Lawyer Aidan Loy, an employment litigation expert, was hired by pressure group Contractors for Justice (C4J) to pursue the Purplebricks class action lawsuit on behalf of self-employed agents who were allegedly misclassified and underpaid.
C4J alleges the self-employed real estate agents should have been entitled to holiday pay and pension contributions by Purplebricks.
Lawyer Calls Purplebricks Class Action ‘Slam Dunk’ Case
In a Negotiator article, Loy says earlier cases suggest that class members could be eligible for an average payment of £30,000 to £50,000. The amount each individual could ultimately receive depends on their length of service and remuneration while they worked for Purplebricks, Loy explains.
“I believe that this case is part of the long-running line of similar cases including Uber where companies have attempted to reduce their costs by effectively claiming that their employees were not employees and avoid sick and holiday pay and pension contributions,” Loy told The Negotiator.
Loy says that, after reviewing the evidence collected so far, he believes the Purplebricks class action lawsuit is a “slam dunk.”
Hundreds of potential class members have reportedly signed up to be part of the Purplebricks class action lawsuit on a ‘no win-no fee’ basis, according to The Negotiator.
