Ansol Heated Pet Blanket Fire Risk Recall Overview:
- Who: The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a recall for Ansol Heated Pet Blankets.
- Why: The product presents a serious risk of fire due to poor quality electrical connections and an unfused plug.
- Where: The product is being recalled in the UK.
A range of heated pet blankets sold on eBay are being recalled as they pose a serious fire risk.
The recall for all Ansol Heated Pet Blankets was posted to the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards website Mar. 25.
The product reportedly presents a serious risk of fire due to poor quality electrical connections and an unfused plug, the recall notice says.
When using the blanket, a person would be unaware of the internal cable fault due to poor quality solder joints and twisted cables, and the user or pet could receive an electric shock and may be electrocuted, the recall states.
โIf the un-fused plug is plugged in overnight, an electrical fault may develop and equipment can catch fire,โ the Ansol Heated Pet Blanket recall says.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations, according to the recall.
The recall did not state if any person or pet had been harmed by the blanket so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Ansol Heated Pet Blanket Listing Removed From eBay, Recall Says
The recalled product can be recognised as a heated pet mat that comes in 220v and 15w or 20w, depending on the mat size. It is fitted with a two-pin plug that comes in a variety of patterns. The product is wrapped inside a clear cellophane cover bearing Chinese writing.
The plug is illegal for use in the UK as it is a two-pin plug going into a three-pin adaptor, the recall says.
It has been recalled from end users, and the listing has been removed from eBay.
Meanwhile, Pets At Home has withdrawn three KONG rope dog leads after a puppy wearing one of the leads broke loose and was killed by a van.
