UK consumers with food intolerances or allergies take note – Aldi, Asda, Morrisons, and Ocado have all issued recalls for Eat Real, Organic Mamia, and other “healthy” snacks after discovering allergens, such as gluten and peanuts, in the products but not on the labels.
The health food recall includes Eat Real Puff products, including Quinoa Puffs White Cheddar, Quinoa Puffs Mediterranean, Quinoa Puffs Jalepeno & Cheddar, and Quinoa & Kale Puffs White Cheddar, as well as Mamia Organic Carrot Puffs, Mamia Organic Tomato Wheels.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued recalls for various Eat Real puff products Friday, reports Brinkwire, warning consumers with allergies or food intolerances. The recalled items include all those with best before dates of May 2022.
Eat Real Quinoa puff products may contain milk, which is not listed as an ingredient in the health food sold by Aldi, Asda, Morrisons, and Ocado, warns the company.
“As always, our focus is on our customers’ safety, and we are in the process of removing the impacted product from shelves and supply chains”, said Eat Real in a statement announcing the health food recall. “We are very sorry that this has happened”.
In addition, Simpleas Lightly Salted Pea Snack sold at Sainsbury’s and Ocado have also been recalled because they contain gluten not listed on the product’s packaging, according to the FSA.
The FSA warns that consumers with food allergies or intolerances should avoid the recalled health foods sold at Aldi, Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, or Home Bargains.
“If you have an allergy or sensitivity to barley, oats, wheat, or gluten, do not eat the aforesaid product”, says the agency. “Instead, return it to the store where you purchased it for a complete refund”.
Finally, a slightly more indulgent snack food sold at Home Bargains has also been recalled for a similar issue. Chocolate Dippers made by TJ Morris may contain peanuts, which are not listed as an ingredient, warns a company announcement.
“Do not eat it if you are allergic to peanuts”, said TJ Morris in an announcement which states that all batches and lots are subject to the food recall. “If you would like a full refund, please return the purchase to our store”.
Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other food safety recalls to help keep consumers informed.
