Sorand Water Heater Electric Shock Recall Overview:

  • Who: The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a recall for Sorand Water Heater 2000W.
  • Why: The product presents a serious risk of electric shock due a live wire inside the product that can become loose.
  • Where: The recall was issued in the UK.

The UK safety watchdog is recalling a water heater as it presents a โ€œserious risk of electric shock.โ€ย

The recall notice for the Sorand Water Heater 2000W was posted Mar. 25 to the Office for Product Safety and Standards website.ย

According to the recall, during use, a live wire inside the product can become loose, and, due to the product being unearthed, it becomes live.ย

โ€œIf the consumer were to test the water while the heater is still plugged in and submerged in the water, there is the risk of electric shock,โ€ the recall states.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations 2016, it says.ย

The water heater is being recalled from end users, and the Amazon listing for the product has been removed.ย

Recalled Sorand Water Heaters Enclosed in Blue, Water-Themed Packageย

You can recognise the product from the package: It is enclosed in a blue, water-themed package with a printed picture of two pool immersion heaters. The product itself is made of PVC, copper and stainless-steel.

The recall did not state if any consumers had been harmed or whether consumers were eligible for a refund.ย

The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Earlier this year, Whirlpool announced it was recalling washing machine models due to a serious fire risk. The recall affects Hotpoint and Indesit brands.ย

Whirlpool says that as many as 79 fires occurred in consumersโ€™ homes due to a fault in the washing machinesโ€™ door mechanism that can cause the door to overheat.
