The Simplify Group Cyber Attack Overview:ย

  • Who: Consumers are mulling class action litigation against The Simplify Group.ย
  • Why: Class action claims would be in response to a November cyber attack that caused an outage to Simplifyโ€™s IT systems that may have resulted in a data breach.
  • Where: The Simplify Group operates across the UK.

The Simplify Group is facing potential class action litigation after a November cyber attack led to an IT outage that left thousands of transactions in limbo, grounded home movers and led to the possible exposure of private data.

Customers vented their frustrations with the home moving company on social media over Simplifyโ€™s alleged inability to keep its servers from being compromised last month, Todayโ€™s Conveyancer reports.

Simplify has said that it is not aware of any consumer information that has been misused and expressed regret that the situation occurred.ย

โ€œAn ever-growing proportion of our conveyancing colleagues are back up and running on core systems and progressing transactions. We continue to prioritise the most urgent cases, and are working with clients to help them move forward towards exchange and completion,โ€ the company said in a statement. โ€œOur team, supported by external experts, are working non-stop to get the remainder of our systems safely back up and running, with progress being made every day.โ€

Customers meanwhile have said they have been left out to dry and have not been given any updates from either Simplify or its conveyancing firm.

Law Firm Plans To Lead Claims Against Company Due to Alleged Slow Response Time, Data Breaches

The law firm Kelly Lenkner UK has said it plans to lead claims against the company due to its alleged slow-response time and for any data breaches which may have affected conveyancers such as DC Law and Premier Property Lawyers, reports Todayโ€™s Conveyancer.ย

Many have also responded to the possible data breach by calling for the end of referral fees with an online petition that was started earlier this month continuing to raise signatures.ย

โ€œOften there is no transparency and full disclosure that a referral fee is involved and the amount being paid. The payment of referral fees to gain conveyancing business denies investment into improving systems, training and delivery of quality services,โ€ the petition says.

The government has asked Simplify to continue monitoring the situation as it unfolds, Today’s Conveyancer reports.ย
