Honda steering wheel regarding the Honda recall worldwide

Honda has recalled nearly 78,000 vehicles in the United Kingdom due to a fire risk.

The owners of 77,836 Honda CR-Vs are affected by the recall, but have yet to be notified their vehicle needs a repair, according to Express.

Hondas Catch Fire

The issue that led to the recall involves a gap between the car’s window switch in which liquid can form, Express reported. The liquid could cause the switch to “short circuit,” expand or melt.

The company warned certain areas of the Honda CR-V could become too hot, potentially catching fire in certain situations.

“In 2012 Butyl tape was applied to the power window master switch (PWMS) as part of a market safety recall to prevent liquid exposure to the inside of the PWMS,” Honda reportedly said in a statement. “However a gap could exist between the applied Butyl tape and PWMS case, liquid could then accumulate in that gap and over time this could lead to liquid entering into the PWMS.”

Honda said 23 fires and 87 “thermal events” believed to be related to the issue had been reported as of November.

A Honda spokesperson said CR-V owners need to take the vehicle to an authorised dealer as soon as they are able. The repairs will be done for free.

U.K. drivers may expect to receive their notices after 18 Jan., the date the notices are being sent in the U.S.

However, consumers can also check if their vehicle is included in the Honda CR-V recall by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Honda’s website.

Hundreds of Thousands of Hondas Recalled Worldwide

Honda has issued a number of recalls during 2020.

According to Express, 268,655 Honda CR-Vs from model years 2002 through 2006 may be at risk in the United States over the window switch issue.

In addition to those, more than 710,000 Honda Accords and Insights have been recalled due to potentially malfunctioning body control modules, while 430,000 vehicles have been recalled after it was determined their driveshafts could corrode and lead to safety problems.

Of that 430,000, Express reported, 210,000 are 2013-2015 Acura ILX and ILX hybrid models, 2012 Civic Hybrids and 2007-2008 Honda Fit vehicles. The other 220,000 are Accord sedans in which the driveshaft lubricant has stripped the protective coating off the part.

In Canada, the company is recalling 53,770 vehicles due to issues related to rearview cameras, sliding-door handles and software, according to Fenderbender.com.Honda CRV regarding the Honda recall Worldwide

Honda also issued a worldwide recall back in June after the company discovered a potential problem with the fuel pumps in its Acura NSXs, Accords and Civics, Express reported.

The fuel pumps were exposed for longer periods to production solvent drying, meaning they have the potential for surface cracking and extra fuel absorption, which could ultimately deform vehicle parts and lead the car to stall.

A Honda report to the U.S. National Highways Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the first report of a fuel pump failure came from India, leading to an investigation that confirmed the vehicle’s impeller could swell and result in the pump’s failure.

According to Express, 136,057 vehicles in the U.S. were included in that recall.

Data from other countries was not known; however, the NHTSA report projected 100 percent of the recalled vehicles will have the issue.

All of the vehicles affected by that recall were built after 2018.

Other Vehicles Recalled Over Fire Risk

Some Kia and Hyundai models were recalled this fall over concerns the vehicles could catch fire.

In those recalls, an NHTSA report revealed brake fluid could leak inside the hydraulic electronic control unit, due to a supplier issue, reportedly leading to an increased risk of fire while the car is in operation.

Over 440,000 Kia vehicles were to be called in to be checked, but the company estimated only about 1% would actually have the defect.

The models affected by the Kia recall include 283,803 Kia Optimas from model years 2013 to 2015 and 156,567 Kia Sorentos from model years 2014 and 2015.

The Hyundai recall affected 151,205 Santa Fe Sport crossovers built from 2013 to 2015; 52,000 Santa Fe Sports in Canada were affected.

The Hyundai issue differed from Kia’s in one major respect: The fires could happen even if the car was not running.

The company recommended owners of the affected models park outside, rather than in a garage, until the vehicles have been inspected by a dealership.

“Hyundai is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition,” the company said, according to Express. “The European market is not affected by this recall.”
