Tesco recalls mozzarella and pesto salad due to potential E. coli contamination

Tesco is recalling its Tesco Finest Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Orzo Salad due to fears of E. coli contamination. The recall affects 215g packages with use-by dates of Aug. 25, 26 and 27, 2026.

The recall was announced on Aug. 25 due to the potential presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli in the product.

According to the Tesco recall notice, symptoms of STEC can include severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and, in severe cases, hemolytic uremic syndrome, which can lead to kidney failure.

“If you are experiencing these symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others,” the Tesco recall states.

Tesco urges customers to return contaminated salad

The Tesco salad recall notice advises consumers not to consume the affected product and to return it to any Tesco store for a full refund.

The Food Standards Agency has also issued a product recall information notice to alert consumers and local authorities about the issue.

Tesco says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
