Stacks of diapers - Aldi nappies

Angry mums claim Aldi nappies have changed for the worse, saying they are smaller and their absorbency has diminished.

Parents have taken to social media to gripe and have brought their complaints to Aldi, the Mirror reported.

The store admits the nappies have been changed, but it still stand by the award-winning product.

Many parents have come to rely on the inexpensive nappy brand from Aldi. The Aldi nappies in question are the store’s own brand, and the competitive price is nearly unmatched. Parents can buy Aldi nappies for about 5p to 11p apiece based on nappy size, according to The Sun, but now parents say they may not be able to count on their quality anymore.

One displeased mum of twins posted her suspicions that the Aldi nappies were smaller on Facebook’s Aldi UK page, and a flurry of other parents chimed in, The Sun reported.

She posted a side-by-side photo of two packages of nappies, one older and one newer. She also complained the absorbency has decreased after her daughter’s nappy experienced a leak.

“I use both 4 and 4+ for my twins but opened a packet of 4+ that I bought last week and they are different from what they normally are,” the mum wrote, according to The Sun.

“The feeling is different (softer), the green is paler and most importantly they are smaller and less absorbent (as I found out this morning as my daughter was wet through and this has never happened) than they usually are. There also seems to be less stretch in the fasteners.”

The Facebook post opened floodgates on other parents who commented on the changes.

One Facebook commenter agreed, writing, “I’ve used Aldi nappies on my daughter since birth never had any problem until about 1 month ago she was soaking through. I’ve now moved onto Tesco Fred and Flo nappies.”

“I also wondered the same when I moved from one area to a complete different county,” another mum added. “I noticed they were suddenly rubbish. The nappy insides kept ripping open too so all the bits were everywhere all the time. Changed to Tesco/Asda own now and love them. No issues.”

“Yes also finding the same problems with size 6+. I have emailed them,” a third mum wrote. “It seems loads of people are having problems with all the sizes so I’m guessing they have changed how they make them.”

The original poster eventually heard back from Aldi, and the chain confirmed the Aldi nappies had been recently altered.

But Aldi does not acknowledge the product is worse.

“As the UK’s largest own-label nappy brand, our customers buy over a billion award-winning Mamia nappies each year,” Aldi said in response to the angry parents’ claims, according to Wales Online.

“We made some improvements to our nappies last year, including improving absorbency and ensuring a more even distribution of fluid to give a better fit and reduce sagging. We’re always grateful for customer feedback, which helps with future product development.”

Aldi’s Mamia nappies won Gold at the Mother and Baby awards in 2019 for their quality and popularity, The Sun reported. Also in 2019, The Sun chose Aldi nappies as the “best supermarket nappy.”

Aldi nappies claim to have two times faster absorbency and 12 hours of day or night protection. They come in sizes 1 through 7.

One thought on Parents Claim Aldi Nappies Now Less Absorbent

Like so many other reviewers I am an avid fan and Champion of ALDI products. Child’s going into size 4. Really disappointed they don’t have size 4 in premium range and deliberated in store getting these as they just didn’t ‘look’ the best despite assurances on the package. Nevertheless – as we know how advertising and marketing works. Purchased them…. awful. Really flimsy – nothing like the quality of the premium range which was excellent!! Leaked 4 hours into nighttime which required full change… such a shame as the premium range is amazing.
