A station is nearly deserted during COVID-19 lockdown - england lockdown

Another England lockdown will commence on 5 November, placing restrictions on the public in an effort to cut down surging coronavirus cases in the U.K.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared on 31 October that a new England lockdown will be put in place after the U.K.’s confirmed coronavirus toll hit 1 million cases, according to an Associated Press report. In the government’s best effort to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed by the surging number of COVID-19 cases, the England lockdown will last until 2 December.

The restrictions of the new England lockdown include closures of all nonessential shops, bars and restaurants, and people must stay home save for basic needs. Bars and restaurants will be allowed to offer takeout, but close-contact services will not be allowed.

Again, travel bans will be in place.

The monthlong England lockdown will be different from the prior three-month lockdown in the sense that schools, universities and manufacturing firms are allowed to stay open, according to The Associated Press.

After the England lockdown rules were eased this summer and workplaces and schools re-opened, the U.K. began to see the number of coronavirus cases rise. An estimate by the Office for National Statistics on 30 October showed 1 in 100 people in England was COVID-19 positive, The Associated Press reported.

Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland have all done similar restrictive lockdowns recently to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

According to the Associated Press, Johnson says he cannot ignore the U.K.’s COVID-19 figures.

“Unless we act, we could see deaths in this country running at several thousand a day,” Johnson said.

The U.K. government will put a number of restrictions in place during the England lockdown. Here’s what you should know.

You Must Stay Home During the England Lockdown

Stay-at-home orders will be in place during the new England lockdown, except for activities such as exercise, work purposes, childcare or schooling, medical reasons or shopping for essentials.

The government guidance states that staying home will be mandatory except in specific incidents where leaving home is necessary.

You Must Practise Social Distancing

The 2-metres-apart rule still applies for being near anyone who is not part of your household or someone you have regular, unavoidable contact with.

The government is reminding the public of the “hands, face, space” rule. Wash your hands for 20 seconds often, wear a face covering and stay socially distanced from others.

You Mustn’t Socialise

Meeting inside is prohibited, and outdoor meetings are also restricted.

Nonessential Businesses Must Close

During the England lockdown, the government is closing all nonessential retailers, including clothing stores, car dealerships, tobacco shops, electronics stores and more.

Bars and restaurants are only open for takeaway, although venues are not happy with the measures and UK Hospitality is pressing for government support amidst the struggles of the hospitality sector

Leisure venues, including pools, golf courses, bowling alleys, dance studios, theme parks and others, will be closed.

Entertainment facilities like casinos, arcades, zoos and other attractions are set to close.

Personal-care venues such as beauty salons, spas, tattoo parlours and the like will be closed during the England lockdown.

Essential facilities, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, hotels for essential work travel and courts, will be open.

Religious Services Must Be Limited

Civil partnerships, funerals and weddings will be affected by the England lockdown.

Funerals can be held with a maximum of only 30 people. Ceremonial funeral events such as ash scatterings can have a maximum of 15 people, although social-distancing measures are still in place.

Weddings and civil partnerships will not be allowed during the England lockdown, save for specific exceptions.

Places of worship will be closed from public gatherings, unless being used for individual prayer, broadcasts, blood donations or food banks.

Going to School, University or Work Must Be Limited

Going to work will be allowed in instances where employees cannot work from home. Anyone who can work from home should do so.

Schools and universities will not be closed but will have safety measures in place to protect students.

Distance learning and travel bans will likely be in place for university students.

Financial Struggles Affect Consumers During the Pandemic

With the announcement of another England lockdown, the economy and the financial effects on residents is likely on the minds of many.

Restrictions on people and places mean most businesses will not thrive, and a trickle-down effect will affect U.K. citizens.

The FCA has supported credit customers who need to tailor their credit payments throughout the pandemic, with arrangements like payment deferrals.

On 10 October, the FCA vowed to announced further updates for mortgage borrowers on 2 November, to assist struggling homeowners.

The England lockdown may bring new support for financial challenges brought on by the restrictions.
