The Traditional Welsh Sausage Company has recalled Edwards of Conwy 6 Traditional Pork Sausages 400 gram packages due to undisclosed wheat.
The affected sausages, sold at Tesco, have use by dates of Sept. 11, Sept. 12, Sept. 21 and Sept. 25, the recall notice states.
The company is urging consumers not to eat the sausages if they have an allergy or intolerance to gluten. Instead, consumers can return the product to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given without proof of purchase.
According to the National Health Service, eating foods that contain gluten can trigger a range of gut symptoms in people with allergies, including diarrhoea, stomach aches, bloating and farting (flatulence), indigestion, constipation, and more. It adds that children with coeliac disease may not grow at the expected rate and may have delayed puberty.
In coeliac disease, the immune system mistakes substances found inside gluten as a threat to the body and attacks them. This damages the surface of the small bowel (intestines), disrupting the body’s ability to take in nutrients from food.
Gluten-free breads, sausages, potato chips, and a number of other products have all been recalled in the past after being found to contain undeclared gluten.
