Toxic Cat Food Recall Email Overview :

  • Who: Sainsbury’s customers who opted out of marketing emails.
  • Why: The grocer recently admitted that an email about the recall of toxic cat food may not have gone out to some consumers for more than a month.
  • Where: The toxic cat food was recalled across the UK.

Sainsbury customers may not have been warned about a toxic cat food recall after opting out of email marketing from the grocer, according to The Guardian.

A “systems issue” might have delayed the warning for more than a month as thousands of cats may have died of a disease linked to the recalled cat foods sold at Sainsbury’s and other shops. The recall was issued in mid-June, but some Sainsbury’s customers say they did not get a warning email until July, reports The Guardian.

“A systems issue led to a delay in some customers receiving our recent recall notice,” a Sainsbury’s spokesperson told The Guardian of the missing emails. “We put this right as soon as it was identified and we continued to display the recall notice in store and online.”

Toxic Cat Food Recalled After Thousands of Pet Deaths

Dozens of cat food products have been yanked from UK shelves after a rash of pet deaths were linked to a suspected mould contamination.

So far, more than 528 cats across the UK have contracted a disease called feline pancytopenia, and 63.5 percent have died, according to the Royal Veterinary College.

Fold Hills announced a recall on several of its hypoallergenic cat foods on June 16, including products under the Sainsbury, Applaws, and Pets at Home brands.

Regulators are currently investigating the outbreak and consumers are urged to stop using the recalled cat food immediately.

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor the toxic cat food recall and report any updates.
