Cadbury listeria recall overview:

  • Who: 6 Cadbury desserts have been recalled.
  • Why: The products may contain listeria.
  • Where: The Cadbury listeria recall is active in the UK.

Six Cadbury desserts have been recalled in the United Kingdom as they may contain listeria.

The recall was published by the UK Food Standards Agency on May 1. It applies to Cadbury Daim Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Crunchie Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Flake Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Chocolate Dessert, Cadbury Dairy Milk Chunks Chocolate Dessert and Cadbury Heroes Chocolate Dessert.

The use-by dates of concern are 17 May for the Flake and Crunchie desserts and 18 May for the other four.

According to the recall, the products might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhea.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies younger than 1 month old and people with weakened immune systems, the notice states.

No other products affected; full refund available

The recall was issued by manufacturer Müller as a precautionary measure, the company said.

The company said it produces the desserts under license from Mondelez International and stresses the recall does not affect any other products the company produces in the UK or other markets.

Müller has advised people not to eat the products and return them for a full refund. The company is not facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In 2011, a federal court granted approval to an antitrust class action lawsuit settlement with Cadbury over allegations that it conspired with other chocolate makers to fix the prices of chocolate candy.
