What is This Claim About?
In January, Transform Hospital Group confirmed its system had been breached on 6 December 2020 and said it would contact individuals who may have had more personal details accessed.
Hacker group REvil claimed it had 900 gigabytes of before-and-after photos of Transform Hospital Group patients, as well as other details, and was threatening to publish the information.
While no payment card information was stolen, according to the clinic group, it is believed that information regarding patients’ names, address and phone numbers, medical procedures, signatures, and more may have been compromised.

U.K. law firms are seeking claimants who believe their data was compromised in the 2020 Transform Hospital Group data breach.
In December 2020, the BBC reported hacker group REvil claimed it had 900 gigabytes of before-and-after photos of patients, as well as other details, and was threatening to publish the information.
Transform Hospital Group, also known simply as The Hospital Group, is endorsed by many celebrities, according to the BBC, and has 11 clinics that specialize in surgeries such as breast augmentation and bariatric weight loss surgery.
In a 5 January 2021 statement, Transform Hospital Group confirmed its system had been breached on 6 December 2020 and said it would contact individuals who may have had more personal details accessed.
“We took immediate action to safeguard our systems following the data security incident and a full investigation is being carried out,” the statement said.
Law firm Leigh Day, which is representing claimants in the potential group litigation, says emails Transform Hospital Group sent to patients indicated in addition to the photos, the following information may have been accessed:
- Name
- Address
- Home and/or mobile telephone number
- Medical history
- Ethnicity
- Email address
- Birthdate
- Religion
- Details about their general practitioner
- Details of operation sought by the patient
- Signature
Transform Hospital Group said no payment card details were compromised, according to the BBC.
The Transform Hospital Group data breach was a ransomware attack — a cyberattack in which hackers access a computer network and either encrypt files or lock users out of their systems until whatever ransom they demand is paid.
Cybersecurity company Emsisoft estimates criminals earned £18 billion from ransomware attacks in 2020, according to the BBC.
REvil, which is also known as Sodinokibi, targets high-profile victims such as currency exchange Travelex and law firm Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks.
