  • Where: The recall is valid in England, Wales and Scotland.

Waitrose & Partners, a brand of British supermarkets, is recalling Plantlife Pulled Oyster Mushroom Burgers because they may contain small pieces of blue plastic, according to the Food Standards Agency (FSA), the independent government department working to protect public health and consumers’ wider interests in relation to food in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“The possible presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat,” the agency says in a recall notice.

The recalled products are the 200g pack size with all batch and date codes.

UK Consumers Warned Not to Eat Recalled Mushroom Burgers

“We apologise that it is necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused,” Waitrose says in its recall notice.

Several other recalls concerning plastic and even metal in food have prompted recalls in the UK this year.

Nestlé recalled one of its baby formula products earlier this year after the discovery of pieces of plastic that babies could choke on. The plastic reportedly came from the scoops used to dispense the product.

In March, Danone yogurts were recalled by Irish authorities after pieces of metal were found.

Top Class Actions will continue to monitor this and other UK food recalls to help keep consumers informed.
