PepsiCo is recalling its Doritos Chilli Heatwave snacks in most of the United Kingdom after discovering that some packages contain milk, an ingredient not listed on the product’s label.
This oversight poses a significant health risk to individuals with milk allergies or intolerances.
The recall, announced on July 17, applies to 140g packs of Doritos Chilli Heatwave with the batch code GBC 209 184C and a best-before date of Dec. 5, 2026.
PepsiCo has taken measures to address the situation by recalling the affected products and notifying allergy support organizations to inform their members.
The company has issued point-of-sale notices to inform customers about the Doritos recall and the steps they should take if they have purchased the affected product.
Consumers with milk allergies advised not to consume recalled product
The recall notice emphasizes that consumers who have purchased the affected Doritos Chilli Heatwave snacks should not consume the product if they have a milk allergy or intolerance.
Instead, they are advised to return the product to the store for a full refund. The recall highlights the importance of accurate allergen labelling, as undeclared allergens can pose serious health risks to susceptible individuals.
PepsiCo has set up a consumer care line to assist customers with inquiries and refunds. Consumers can reach out to PepsiCo at 0800 274777 or visit its website.
PepsiCo says it has not received any reports of illness related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
Earlier this year, Farmfoods recalled its Ritz Cheese Sandwich Crackers across England and Wales after discovering that three allergens — milk, soya, and wheat (gluten) — were not adequately highlighted on the product’s label.
