Jif Peanut Butter Salmonella Recall Overview:

  • Who: JDM Distributors is recalling Jif Creamy Peanut Butter and Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter
  • Why: The products may be contaminated with Salmonella
  • Where: UK

JDM Distributors is recalling its Jif Creamy Peanut Butter and Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter in the United Kingdom, because the products might be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recall was posted on the UK Food Standards Agency website May 26, and applies to 453g Jif Creamy Peanut Butter with a best before date of 09 December 2023, and 453g Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter with a best before date of 23 October 2023.

The product may be contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, the recall states.

“If you have bought the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

The recall does not state whether anyone has been sickened so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

Recall Follows International Peanut Butter Recalls

The news comes after the J.M. Smucker Company recalled certain Jif brand peanut butter products in the United States as they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The U.S. recall comes amid a multistate outbreak of salmonella senftenberg infections linked to certain Jif peanut butter products produced at the J.M. Smucker Company facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

JIf issued the recall May 20, and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website posted a federal and state health authority investigation notice of the salmonella outbreak.
