Recall Roundup of Children’s Products Overview:

  • Who: ALDI, Halfords, Shein and other retailers are among those recalling a number of baby and children’s products.
  • Why: The recalls include various sets of kids’ pyjamas, an advent calendar, a car seat and a baby carrier.
  • Where: The recalls are underway in the United Kingdom.

A number of baby and children’s products are under recall in the United Kingdom as regulators and companies work to keep kids safe from risky items.

Top Class Actions has rounded up the latest recalls for children’s sleepwear, toys and carriers with risks ranging from strangulation to fire hazards and chemical harm.

Children’s Sleepwear Presents Risks of Burn Injury, Strangulation

Online retailer Shein is recalling two children’s sleepwear sets as they do not meet government flammability standards and present “a risk of burn injury.” One of the sets of recalled pyjamas has dinosaurs on them while the other is chequered in bright colors.

Upon return of the garments, customers will receive a refund of the purchase price and a £10 gift card via email.

Meanwhile an RS-96-branded kids’ pyjama set with the word “princess” on its top is also being recalled with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) saying it poses a strangulation risk due to a decorative cord on the chest.

“The cord can become entangled while a child engages in usual children’s activities, causing the cord to tighten across the neck,” the OPSS said.

Fidget Toy Advent Calendar Poses Chemical Risk

A Christmas-themed advent calendar with 24 fidget toys called Fidget Toy Advent Calendar is being withdrawn from the market because it “poses a serious chemical risk,” the OPSS says.

One of the fidget toys—the peanut shell—contains an excess concentration of phthalates, the office says.  A young child playing with the toy is exposed to the phthalates that can potentially cause cancer and also pose non-cancer health risks.

Baby Carriers Have Component That May Fail

Supermarket giant ALDI is recalling all of its Adventuridge hiking baby carriers and telling parents to stop using the product “immediately.”

In a recall notice posted to the ALDI UK website Nov. 8, the chain said it was recalling the baby backpack due an issue in a number of the carriers.

ALDI said its supplier had identified that a component may fail on a “small number” of the carriers, the recall says.

“Customers are asked to stop using this product immediately and return it to the nearest store where a full refund will be given,” the recall notice states.

Car Seat Can Potentially Be Opened While Locked

Halfords has issued a recall of its i-Size Revolve car seat due to a safety concern that has been found with the rotating locking mechanism.

It has identified that the mechanism on the seat can potentially be pushed open when in the locked position.

This could lead to the seat rotating while in the locked position, which could be dangerous in the event of a car crash. Consumers can take the seat to their nearest Halfords for a refund and a 15% discount on a replacement seat.
