Select Baker Ross toys have been recalled with urgent warnings that they could pose a danger to children.
LancsLive reported Trading Standards UK has issued the Baker Ross toys recalls over fears children could risk choking or chemical burns.
Flashing Christmas Bracelets Recalled
One of the Baker Ross toys recalled is a set of Flashing Christmas Bracelets, according to Trading Standards UK.
The recall was announced when it was found that the button batteries and electric circuits could detach from the toy and children could choke on the small pieces.
Furthermore, the button batteries can cause chemical burns, according to Trading Standards UK. If button cells are swallowed, they can trigger a body to generate sodium hydroxide.
According to the U.K. government, sodium hydroxide is used in manufacturing chemicals and household cleaners. Exposure to sodium hydroxide can cause chest tightness, confusion, cough, fever, headaches and irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat.
The U.K. government says if sodium hydroxide is ingested it can cause breathing difficulties, burning of the mouth and throat, difficulty swallowing, drooling, stomach pain and vomiting.
Skin contact with sodium hydroxide can cause burning, inflammation, pain and ulcers.
“The electrical circuit and the button batteries can easily detach from the toy,” the Trading Standards UK notice says. “A child could place any of them in the mouth and choke on it. … The product does not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European Standard EN 62115.”
The flashing Christmas bracelets by Baker Ross toys were sold online in the U.K. The bracelets came in a set of four and had a barcode number of 50501174078239, according to Trading Standards U.K.
Fun Toys Flashing Swing Balls Recalled
Another recall was issued for Baker Ross’ Fun Toys Flashing Swing Balls, which can lead to strangulation, Trading Standards UK says.
“Given the design and the material of the toy, a child could swing the toy around the head and twist it around the neck, causing strangulation,” Trading Standards UK wrote in the recall notice. “The product does not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European Standard EN 71-1.”
The Fun Toys Flashing Swing Balls have a model number EF453 and a barcode number of 5051174046573. Trading Standards UK describes them as “soft squishy light up balls.”
The toy was packaged in clear plastic with a cardboard label and was sold online in the U.K.
Funky Faces Flashing Rings Recalled
Funky Faces Flashing Rings have been urgently recalled over fears that children could choke on the toy’s batteries or receive chemical burns from them.
“The electrical circuit and the button batteries can easily detach from the toy,” the Trading Standards UK notice said.
The Funky Faces Flashing Rings recall involves the same warning about button cells as the Flashing Christmas Bracelets. These Baker Ross toys also do not comply with Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European Standard EN 62115 requirements.
The flashing rings’ model number is AR472, and the barcode number is unknown.
The toy was sold online in packs of four in the U.K.
More Baker Ross Toys Recalled Last Year
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) recalled other Baker Ross toys last year, including Aeroplane Finger Lights sold through the Baker Ross website and catalogue. The toys were sold between January 2019 and February 2020.
The recall was issued when it was discovered that the batteries could be easily accessed by a child and choking or chemical burns could occur.
The Aeroplane Finger Lights were sold in four-packs with a barcode number 5051174078062, according to Recall Alert. The product code for the toy was AV619.
About 279 packs were sold in Ireland, according to the CCPC.
