‘Mustard-Free’ Welsh Piccalilli Overview:
- Who: Welsh Chunky Piccalilli is being recalled by its producer for containing undeclared mustard.
- What: The piccalilli in question is marked with a label saying it is mustard-free.
- Where: The recall is effective in the United Kingdom.
Welsh Chunky Piccalilli has been pulled from the shelves by its producer after it was found to contain undeclared mustard, making it a health hazard to anyone with a mustard allergy.
The piccalilli in question is marked with a label saying it is mustard-free.
In a recall notice posted by the Foods Standards Agency, Welsh Speciality Foods says that the Welsh Chunky Piccalilli that is being recalled was sold in 280-gram jars with the batch codes PIC2021, PIC2441 and PIC3481. The best-before dates of the product are 21 October 2022, 01 December 2022 and 14 March 2023.
The company is urging consumers with a mustard allergy not to eat the product and to instead return it to the store of purchase for a full refund.
Welsh Speciality Foods says it is telling all the relevant allergy support organisations about the labelling mishap, which will tell their members about the recall.
The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, which explains why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have bought it.
Other Food Recalls Occurred This Month
Food products are often recalled due to labelling mix ups. Earlier this month, GHGA, LLC. had to recall 266 of its Chicken Salad Croissants in the United States over allergy concerns after discovering they contained undeclared fish.
The recall occurred when the company discovered that the affected croissants may have been accidentally filled with tuna salad instead of chicken salad, according to the recall.
Luckily, the company said it received no reports of illness or injury stemming from the possible mixup.
