Tesco Hog Roast Style Pork with Apple Sauce is being pulled from shelves across the United Kingdom after salmonella was detected in the crackling.
In a recall notice, Tesco says the crackling crumb sachet within the pack may contain the highly infectious bacteria, and it is urging customers not to eat any of the hog roasts, telling them to instead return them to Tesco stores for a full refund. No receipt is required.
The recall roasts come in a 425-gram package and have best-before dates of 06 January 2022, 09 January 2022, 15 January 2022, 17 January 2022, 6 February 2022, 8 March 2022 and 9 March 2022.
The recall notice says symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps.
Pork Scratchings Also Recalled This Month For Salmonella
Earlier this month another pork product was recalled for possible salmonella contamination: Snaffling Pig’s Perfectly Salted Pork Scratchings.
In a recall notice posted by the Food Standards Agency, the company said it was recalling the 45-gram packets of Snaffling Pig Perfectly Salted Pork Scratchings with a best-before date of 11 June, 2022, after salmonella was detected.
“The safety and quality of our products, and wellbeing of our customers, is of the utmost importance to us. This is an appropriate measure on that basis,” the company says in a consumer notice.
According to Food Safety News, researchers have estimated there are 180 deaths per year in the UK caused by foodborne diseases from 11 pathogens — 33 of which are linked to salmonella. The Food Standards Agency estimates that about 2.4 million cases of foodborne illness occur every year in the UK.
