Vevor welder, drill recall overview:

  • Who: The UK government rejected the import of a hammer drill and two welders at the border and destroyed products.
  • Why: The products present a high risk of burns and electric shock, product safety inspectors say.
  • Where: The products were rejected and destroyed in the UK.

The UK government rejected the import of a Vevor home drill and two welders and destroyed them at the border as they present a high risk of electric shock and burns to consumers, the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards says.

On June 7, the product safety office issued safety notices for the three Vevor products.

Vevor Cordless Rotary Hammer Drill poses electric shock risk, according to safety notice

The Vevor Cordless Rotary Hammer Drill presents a high risk of electric shock as the transformer was of a poor build quality, product safety inspectors say.

The product reportedly featured “poor quality connections” with wires that were not correctly soldered to withstand a high vibration environment, the inspectors say.

“The import has been rejected at the border and has been destroyed,” the notice says.

Vevor Welder poses high risk of burns, safety report says

On the same day, the product safety office issued a safety report for the Vevor Welder.

“The product presents a high risk of burns as the plug supplied has a counterfeit cable and is fitted with a modified fuse,” the report says. “The fuse has a wire attached which means it bypasses the fuses’ function and provides no over-current-protection.”

The welder was also rejected at the border and destroyed.

Vevor MIG Welder can explode, cause burns, according to safety report

Finally, the product safety office issued a safety report for the Vevor MIG Welder.

The report says the product presents a serious risk of burns as the plug supplied is fitted with a fuse which has been altered and does not provide sufficient protection.

“As a result, a power surge may occur, causing the plug to explode. Due to the length of the cable the consumer may be near the explosion and may receive burns,” the report says.

The product was stopped at the border and destroyed, the office said.

According to its website, Vevor is a major brand specializing in tools with thousands of employees. The company says it has more than 10 million customers in more than 200 countries and regions.

Office for Product Safety and Standards issues other tool recalls

Meanwhile, the Office for Product Safety and Standards also issued a recall for the Sorand Water Heater 2000W as it presents a serious risk of electric shock.

According to that recall, during use, a live wire inside the product can become loose, and, due to the product being unearthed, it becomes live.
