Amazon recalled a mushroom teether product over concerns it can pose a suffocation risk.
The recalled mushroom teether product is the “Silicone Baby Teething Toys, Seeway Mushroom Teether Toys for Teething Baby Relieve Sore Gum, BPA Free Sensory Chew Toys.”
The silicone baby teether is in the shape of a mushroom, comes in a variety of colors and has a white stem and blue top, according to the Amazon recall.
The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards published the recall on May 19.
Amazon determined the recalled mushroom teether poses a suffocation risk after it discovered that the mushroom head can “flip around” and create a “tight suction,” according to the recall notice. The design of the recalled mushroom teether product does not meet safety requirements set by the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
“If this suction is over the mouth of a child or infant, the child may suffocate,” the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards says.
Amazon Recall Notice Tells Consumers To Stop Using Recalled Mushroom Teether
Amazon urged consumers who own the recalled mushroom teether product to stop using it and to keep it out of the reach of children.
It has removed the recalled mushroom teether product, which has been for sale on Amazon since Sept. 24, 2021, from its marketplace, according to the recall.
The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a similar recall last month for three baby teethers it determined presented a choking or strangling risk.
