Baby food recalled after apple stalks discovered.

Several varieties of a popular brand of baby food sold in shops all over Ireland have been urgently recalled due to the discovery of apple stalks.

The recall affects two Aptamil baby products and a Cow and Gate brand product reportedly sold at Tesco and Supervalu. The recalled products include Aptamil Oats, Raisin & Apple Bircher Muesli 10+ months in the 275-gram size and Aptamil Multigrain & Fruit Muesli 10+ months, also in the 275-gram size. The products have a best before date of 16 Jan 2022 and the recall includes all batch codes.

Packets of Cow and Gate My First Museli Baby Cereal 10+ months in the 330-gram size have also been recalled over the possible presence of apple stalks. The recalled Cow and Gate product has a best before date of 13 Oct 2021.

“Nutricia is recalling the above batches of its Aptamil baby muesli products due to the presence of apple stalks,” a Food Safety Authority (FSA) spokesperson said, according to the CorkBeo

The FSA notice states that shops will be provided with recall notices to be placed at point-of-sale locations.

Recent Food Safety Recalls

Several other recalls concerning plastic and even metal in food have prompted recalls recently.

Recently, tiny pieces of plastic were found in Morrisons Chocolate Cereal, prompting a recall of the product on April 3.

Nestle recalled one of its baby formula products earlier this month after the discovery of pieces of plastic that babies could choke on. The plastic reportedly came from the scoops used to dispense the product.

In March, Danone Activia Vanilla and Danone Light and Free Peach Passion Fruit Greek Style Yogurt were recalled by Irish authorities after pieces of metal were found.

In addition, a massive number of chicken products have been recalled within the past few months in the UK and Ireland for salmonella concerns. In February, The Sun reported that nearly 500 people across the UK had been hospitalised with salmonella poisoning — many of them, children under the age of 16. The salmonella was reportedly traced to poultry products shipped from Poland and sold at major supermarkets for months.
