  • Where: The A’Kin Fragrance-Free Mild and Gentle Hypoallergenic Shampoo recall is in effect across the United Kingdom.

Product Safety Australia has ordered a recall for 250 bottles of McPherson’s A’Kin Fragrance-Free Mild and Gentle Hypoallergenic Shampoo 225 mL after discovering a possible bacterial contamination.

The agency warns the popular hypoallergenic shampoo manufactured may be contaminated with Enterobacter gergoviae, which it says can cause “significant infection or illness.”

Retailers have been instructed by McPherson’s to remove the impacted batches of A’Kin shampoo, which is marketed as “Fragrance Free,” “Mild” and “Natural,” from their shelves.

McPherson’s is urging consumers who purchased the A’Kin shampoo between Sept. 1 and Oct. 11 to review the product’s label.

Bottles that should be recalled can be identified by the AW1B01 batch number,” the company said in a statement. “Customers in possession of this batch should immediately stop using the product and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”

Customers Should Stop Using The Product Immediately and Return It To Its Place of Purchase

Exposure to Enterobacter gergoviae can cause a variety of conditions, including meningitis, skin and eye infections, pneumonia and urinary tract infections.

The company says the recall is being done as a precautionary measure and that extensive testing has determined that no other batches deem a safety risk.

Customers are being asked to stop using the product immediately and advised to return it to its place of purchase to receive a full refund.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are taking all measures to rectify the situation,” the company said. “Customers seeking additional information on the recall can call the McPherson’s customer service line on 1800 651 146.”

A separate recall was issued last month by ALDI with the company advising parents to immediately stop using its Adventuridge hiking baby carriers due to a faulty component that the company says is prone to failing.

In October, Lidl recalled a batch of its Lidl Just Free oat milk after a TikTok star revealed that a number of cartons of the product with sell-by dates of 2022 were lumpy and smelled bad
