Vernacare wet wipes recall:

  • Who: Parent company Vernacare recalled Caremore, CCN/Medirite, CHL, Countrywide, Fairfield and Fittleworth wet wipes.
  • Why: The wipes could be contaminated with the bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa.
  • Where: The recall is effective throughout the UK.

Wet wipes sold under various brand names are being recalled as they may be contaminated with a type of bacteria.

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards issued a recall notice for wet wipe products manufactured by Vernacare on its website July 5.

The recall applies to wet wipes manufactured by Vernacare and sold under brand names Caremore, CCN/Medirite, CHL, Countrywide, Fairfield and Fittleworth, which present a microbiological risk due to contamination with the bacterial pseudomonas aeruginosa, the notice says.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause infections in humans.

“Distributors and consumers in possession of these products should not use them and should return them to Vernacare,” the notice says.

Wet wipes recall expands on existing personal cleansing products recall

The recall is an expansion of an existing Vernacare personal cleansing products recall from May, which includes bedbaths, shampoo caps, wash mitts, cleansing wipes and barrier cloths.

To support the investigation, Vernacare undertook microbial testing on a range of product lots under review by the Norwegian authorities, the company says in a press release.

“Unfortunately, the results of the independent testing identified that, despite rigorous testing before release, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa was present in some products,” it says.

As a result of the above findings, Vernacare launched an investigation. During this investigation period, cosmetic production at its Lancashire facility has been temporarily paused.

The root cause has yet to be identified so the company has decided to issue a full voluntary recall on all cosmetic products manufactured at the affected facility, the wet wipes recall states.
