Kinder Surprise Ferrero Recall Overview:
- Who: Ferrero is recalling selected batches of Kinder Surprise.
- Why: The batches might be contaminated with salmonella.
- Where: the recall is nationwide.
Ferrero is recalling batches of its iconic Kinder Surprises just weeks before Easter as the chocolate eggs may contain a surprise customers weren’t gambling for: salmonella.
Ferrerro issued the recall Apr. 2 on the UK Food Standards Agency website.
“Ferrero is taking the precautionary action of recalling selected batches of Kinder Surprise because it might be contaminated with salmonella,” the company said.
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
“If you have bought one of the selected batches of Kinder Surprise as detailed above, do not eat it,” the company said.
Ferrero did not say if any customers had suffered salmonella symptoms from the recalled eggs or how it discovered the potential contamination.
The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.
Kinder Surprise Customers Can Get Full Refunds
Customers can check if their eggs are affected by the recall by looking at the best-by date on the packaging.
The recall applies to all 20g and 20g x 3 packs of Kinder Surprise with best-before dates between 11 July 2022 and 7 October 2022. Only Kinder Surprise products manufactured in Belgium are affected.
The company says the toy included in the products is not affected.
Point-of-sale notices about the recall will be displayed in retail stores that are selling the chocolate eggs. The company is offering a full refund for affected eggs.
To secure your refund, contact the Ferrero consumer careline on consumers.uk@ferrero.com or 0330 053 8943 UK or +44 (0)330 053 8943 Ireland.
Last month, Ferrero U.S.A. was sued by consumers who alleged that Kinder Joy brand ‘Sweet Cream Topped With Cocoa Wafer Bites’ do not actually contain any sweet cream.
Plaintiff Jessica Sneed claimed in her class action lawsuit that Ferrero misleads consumers into believing the product contains sweet cream by misrepresenting its packaging.
