Danone recalls two types of yogurt products after metal discovered

Danone Activia Vanilla and Danone Light and Free Peach Passion Fruit Greek Style Yogurt have been recalled by Irish authorities after pieces of metal were found inside the treats.

An isolated batch of the Danone yogurt is being recalled and customers are being warned not to eat the yogurt, but instead return it to the store for a refund. In addition, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSA) stated in a warning issued on Sunday that retailers should also remove affected products from the shelves.

Though this is not a class action lawsuit, Top Class Actions will monitor the situation for any developments related to consumer safety.

According to the notice issued by FSA, the recalled yogurt includes the following:

  • Light and Free Peach Passion Fruit Greek Style Yogurt with a use-by date of 31 March 2021
  • Activia Vanilla 0% Fat – No added Sugar with a use-by date of 2 April 2021

However, another report indicates a third type of yogurt has also been recalled:

  • Activia Intensely Creamy Raspberry Yogurt with a use-by date of 31 March 2021

“We are recalling these isolated batches as a precaution because there is a risk that some packs may contain pieces of metal,” said Danone in a statement issued over the recalled yogurt.

The company further claims that the incident originates with an ingredient from a third-party supplier, according to The Irish Sun

The FSA notice indicates that the product’s country of origin is France and that the potential presence of metal makes the yogurt unsafe for consumers.

“We regret that these products do not meet our usual high standards, and we have taken immediate action to ensure that our supplier maintains full compliance with our strict quality and food standards,” continued the manufacturer, which also noted “[f]ollowing an investigation, we are confident no other batches of this product or any other Light & Free Peach Passion Fruit and Activia Vanilla 0% Fat No Added Sugar are impacted.”

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 08081449451 or by email: DairyCarelineUK@danone.com.

“We are sorry that this has happened. Nothing is more important to us than the quality and safety of our products,” reportedly says Danone in its statement.
