TK Maxx hair dryer recall overview:

  • Who: TK Maxx recalled the Elgetec & Something Cosmetics Ultrapower Ionic Hair Dryer.
  • Why: The plug and cord do not meet safety standards and cause an electric shock or fire.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the UK.

A hair dryer sold at TK Maxx and Homesense stores across the UK is being recalled as it poses a risk of electric shock or fire for consumers.

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards website posted the recall notice for the Elgetec & Something Cosmetics Ultrapower Ionic Hair Dryer July 28.

According to the notice, TK Maxx recalled the product due to a safety issue which could cause an electric shock or fire.

“The plug and cord do not meet required safety standards and the plug was found to contain a counterfeit fuse,” the company says in the TK Maxx hair dryer recall.

TK Maxx is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes end in class action lawsuits.

TK Maxx hair dryer recall says product can be returned for full refund

The Elgetec & Something Cosmetics Ultrapower Ionic Hair Dryer was sold in TK Maxx and Homesense stores between January and July 2022.

It is a black and red hairdryer with the brand name “Elgetec Beauty” or “Something Cosmetics” printed on it. The plug is marked with a 5-point star inside a circle below the red fuse cover.

“If you purchased the product, please stop using it immediately and return to any TK Maxx or Homesense store for a full refund,” the TK Maxx hair dryer recall states.

In April, pairs of women’s red leather gloves sold at TK Maxx were recalled across the UK and the Republic of Ireland as they presented a “serious chemical hazard” to wearers.
