One Step hair dryer recall overview:

  • Who: The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled a hair dryer and styler sold on Amazon.
  • Why: The product presents a high risk of fire, electric shock and burns.
  • Where: The recall is effective in the UK.

The UK consumer safety watchdog recalled the One Step hair dryer and styler sold on Amazon as it presents a high risk of electric shock, fire and burns.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards posted a recall July 8 for the black and pink electric hair dryer and styler listed on Amazon as  “Hair Dryer Brush Hot Air Brush – 3 in 1 Hair Dryer and Volumizer Brush Curler Hot Hair Comb Styling Brush.”

“The product has been identified as presenting a risk of fire, burns and electric shock due to multiple safety defects,” the One Step hair dryer recall states.

For example, the product’s plug does not meet the dimensional requirements, presenting an electric shock hazard while plugging it in or pulling it out of a mains electrical socket.

The plug itself was also incorrectly rated for the fuse fitted and the rated power of the appliance, presenting a fire hazard, the recall states. Meanwhile, the mains plug was not fitted with a fuse link conforming to the relevant standard and was incorrectly rated for the plug and supply cord fitted.

“It is also possible to remove parts of the item by hand and without use of a tool, leaving access to single isolation mains wiring, presenting a risk of electric shock,” the notice says.

One Step hair dryer recall says product removed from Amazon

The product has been recalled from end users and listings removed by Amazon.

“We recommend users stop using this product immediately,” the One Step hair dryer recall states. “Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.”

In related hair product recalls, earlier this year, the Office for Product Safety and Standards announced a recall of Baylis & Harding Goodness Hair Detangler Watermelon Burst due to contamination by bacteria that can cause serious health issues.
